Profile

Charlotte de Blois studied Fine Art at Newport College of Art, followed by Typographic Design at the London College of Communication. Fellow student Eiichi Kono, who later designed Verdana, encouraged her pre-existing love of East Asian visual culture. He also introduced her to the engraver the Late Takuji Kubo, who, while he lived in Europe, became a close friend. All three artist explored the principals of letter forms in fine art.

Some years later Charlotte decided to take a short break from her career in publishing to study East Asian History of Art and Languages at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Now retired from publishing, she is a full-time mixed-media artist. East Asian visual vocabulary is important for her but her subject matter is global. Environmental destruction, pollution, the fragility of ecosystems are all themes she explores. She has exhibited widely in Cambridge and in London
