Painter
Basia was born in a Polish refugee camp in rural Oxfordshire, surrounded by bluebell woods, all of which inspired both her love of art, nature, ethnography and history.
She studied Painting & Graphics at Chelsea School of Art prior to obtaining a BA in Polish Studies, also in London, which led to a life of translating, editing and teaching before she resumed her art at Cambridge Art Salon's Unit 13 studio.
Her work is in private collections at home and abroad and her style is illustrative realism revolving around contemporary icons and wild animal portraiture with a medieval twist.
She paints the soul behind the animals she depicts, inspired by her empathetic vegan lifestyle, including motifs from her Polish heritage, and Slavic folk art.
Her paintings are on wood panels (including upcycled pieces), copper and aluminium plate, glass (using the reverse glass method), as well as canvas. She uses oils, pastels, pen & ink, gold foil, mixed media and the sgraffito technique.
